Oral Cancer Screening

Excellence in Dental Care for Woodland Families

It has been reported by the American Cancer Society that nearly 40,000 cases of oral cancer are diagnosed every year, with over 7,500 cases resulting in death. However, the good news is that doctor such as Leah Zils from The Woodlands, Texas, can easily detect and treat oral cancer in its early stages.

What is oral cancer?

Our team describes oral cancer as a type of cancer that usually occurs in the mouth or throat. It can develop in different areas such as the lips, tongue, gums, roof, or floor of the mouth and inside the cheeks. If left without treatment, it can spread to many other parts of the body and become life-threatening, which is why routine evaluations and screenings are critical to ensuring oral health and wellness over time.

Who is more at risk of developing mouth or oral cancer?

Several risk factors contribute to the development of oral cancer, including habits such as tobacco use, excessive alcohol consumption, poor nutrition and hygiene habits, a weakened immune system, and exposure to certain HPV strains. However, it is also possible for individuals without any of these risk factors to develop oral cancer. This highlights the importance of regular dental evaluations, cleanings, and screenings for everyone.

How can I prevent oral cancer?

Our team at Leah Zils, DDS, can help you take steps to protect yourself and ensure early detection. We recommend avoiding tobacco and excessive alcohol consumption, maintaining a healthy diet, practicing good oral hygiene, and getting the HPV vaccine. It is also important to schedule regular dental check-ups and screenings to catch any abnormalities or changes in your oral health.

How do I schedule a screening to detect mouth cancer?

Oral cancer screenings are available at Leah Zils, DDS, and we are open to new patients. We invite you to take steps to achieve early detection of oral cancer by calling (281) 681-9442 and visiting our office at 6769 Lake Woodlands Drive, Suite A, in The Woodlands, TX. We look forward to meeting you and helping you screen for oral cancer!

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. All the staff were wonderful! Of course I was scared since it was my first visit but they made me feel comfortable and were able to explain everything in words I could understand. They were very gentle and I have no problem returning for my next visit. Highly recommend! Easy parking too!

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. The post is for Dr. Cagle, not Zils. I no longer use this practice.

Meticulous is the best adjective to describe Dr. Cagle. Shirley enjoys her craft, and you will leave the office with a new appreciation for that craft.

The entire staff is friendly, caring, and experienced. Debbie greets you with a warm smile when you enter the building.

Many thanks to the entire team.

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I recently visited Dr. Leah Zils for a routine cleaning and some repair work, and I couldn’t be more impressed. The cleaning was incredibly thorough, yet gentle—my teeth felt noticeably cleaner without any discomfort. Dr. Zils also took care of a couple of problem areas I had been putting off, and the repairs were smooth, efficient, and virtually painless. She explained everything clearly, made sure I was comfortable the entire time, and was genuinely attentive to my concerns. The office staff was welcoming, and the whole environment felt professional and calming. It’s rare to actually feel relaxed at the dentist, but Dr. Zils makes it possible. Highly recommend her for both preventative and restorative care.

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I am so impressed with Dr. Zil’s and her staff. Everyone from the front desk to the dentist, hygienist and assistant was professional, friendly, and genuinely personable. They run on time, but don’t make you feel rushed. They took their time to explain everything well and the assistant worked alongside the dentist like a perfectly synced team. The whole experience was efficient, yet relaxed, and I left feeling really well taken care of. Highly recommend!
